Bergen was founded by King Olav Kyrre in 1070. Until 1299 Bergen was even the capital of Norway. Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and is also called the city between the 7 mountains.
The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1756 and is one of the oldest orchestras in the world. The famous composer Edvard Grieg was born in Bergen and every year the Grieg International Choir festival is held in Bergen.
Bergen has several museums and there is a University that is known internationally because of its Marine research institute. Around 10 percent of the population in Bergen are students, which adds a fresh and youthful mood to the city’s vibe.
