Aschau im Zillertal is a small village, located in the middle of Zillertal. The village lies between Kaltenbach and Mayrhofen. Aschau im Zillertal is a quiet village, but there are plenty of activities to do here. The village, which has 1,600 inhabitants, owes its name to the vast river forest landscapes (Auen - forest), which in the Middle Ages covered the valley floor.
Aschau is also popular of the Hochfügen-Hochzillertal and Zillertal Arena ski areas. The Aschau valley run of the Hochzillertal ski area ends at the edge of the village, from there the town can be reached directly and a very short time with the ski bus.
